About the Markham Village Music Festival
Now in its 30th year, the Markham Kinsmen started the Markham Village Music Festival in 1978. Back then; it was simply called the Markham Village Festival. Since music is such a strong component of the Festival, the name was changed to the Markham Village Music Festival in 2001. The Festival has always taken place on the third weekend of June in Markham Village. Main Street Markham (a.k.a. Markham Road or Highway 48) is closed to traffic from Highway 7 north to Parkway/Bullock for this annual event.
Volunteers are the backbone of any community organization and this is true of the Markham Village Music Festival. The enthusiastic residents that make up the Festival committee meet starting in January to prepare for this annual event. New members are most welcome and we encourage you to participate in your community! Along with the Organizing Committee, volunteers are needed for the actual weekend. The Town of Markham, Markham Village B.I.A., representing the many businesses on the street, as well as corporate and individual donations, supports the Festival. Extra funds are raised through the rental of craft and food booths and our Silent Auction. In-kind donations are gratefully received. It truly is a party supported by our community!
