About Markham Village

A charming, village just north of Toronto, Markham Village was founded over 200 years ago on the Rouge River. It flourished as a mixed farming, milling and later manufacturing centre. Today, the Village has a fine selection of shops, most of which occupy heritage buildings.

While you're enjoyning the Music Festival, you can also browse through more than 45 retail merchant establishments. You'll find gift stores, beauty salons, fashion and shoe shops, and many more.

With over 12 restaurants, there's plenty of culinary choice. We have Japanese, Canadian, Hungarian and Italian restaurants. There's a chocolatier, a couple of British pubs, a bistro, specialty coffee, a bakery cafe and an English tea shop.

Just west down the street from the Festival you'll find the Tannery Pond boardwalk. Built on the site where a number of businesses were once were once located. The boardwalk wends through the wetland left after the old dam was breached by Huricane Hazel. Visit the boardwalk on it's own, or drop by the Markham Village BIA office just west of Main Street (132 Robinson Road) and pick up a Markham Village Walking Tour brochure, and find out about the history of many of the local buildings.
